The actor who voices Squidward Tentacles on the hit animated television show Spongebob Squarepants was arrested last weekend on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
According to the police report, Rodger Bumpass was arrested in Burbank, California last Friday after police pulled up to an odd scene. Acting on a tip from a concerned citizen, police responded to the scene where they found Bumpass leaning up against his blue PT Cruiser, which was parked in the middle of the road. When officers approached, Bumpass tried to walk away from officers, and the police noted that he almost fell to the ground.
Bumpass was asked to take a field sobriety test, which he failed, according to the police report. He also submitted to a Breathalyzer, and while the exact reading wasnt made available, authorities noted that he recorded an amount more then twice the legal limit.Bumpass was booked into custody shortly after 11 p.m. and was released the following morning on $15,000 bail.
If the report is true, Bumpass was operating a vehicle with a BAC over 0.16, meaning that had the arrest occurred in Minnesota, Bumpass would be facing an aggravated DUI charge. Under Minnesota law, a person can face an upgraded DUI charge if certain aggravating factors are present during the arrest. Those aggravating factors include:
Operating a vehicle with a BAC above 0.16Being stopped with a minor under the age of 16 in the vehicle at the time of the arrestA previousimpaired driving conviction or alcohol related drivers license revocationwithin the last 10 years directly preceding the current DWI offense
